1. Does the BaZi Year Change at Li Chun?
The Year Pillar normally changes at Li Chun (立春, Beginning of Spring) in common Zi Ping BaZi practice. It does not automatically change on January 1, and it is not always the same as the Lunar New Year boundary.
This distinction matters most for births between January 1 and Li Chun. A calculator that labels every January birth with the new Gregorian year’s stem and branch can produce the wrong Year Pillar.
Ask the tool a direct question: “What year boundary do you use?” A documented answer is more useful than a vague claim of ancient accuracy.
2. Are Month Pillars Based on Jie Solar Terms?
